Training Day for new Bronze participants 2026
WHEN AND WHERE?
At LPGS (sports hall building only)
Saturday 24 January 2026 9.30am
Finish time is approximately 4.30pm but this will depend on your cooperation within your groups and with the leaders. If we need to overrun a little for whatever reason, we will let you know so that you can contact home.
- We have a lot of information and experience to pass on to you, so please work with us to finish on time.
- Please listen carefully to your leaders and follow all their instructions.
- Usual school rules and sanctions apply, including no unauthorised use of mobile phones.
- all other school buildings will be locked and strictly out of bounds
- Anyone not willing to meet our expectations on this may jeopardize their place on the expedition.
WHAT TO WEAR
- Please wear sensible warm clothes and trainers.
- Leggings or tracksuits very suitable plus
- WARM LAYERS and
- a COAT - essential (this should be warm and showerproof. You do NOT need expedition waterproofs for this training day).
We WILL be working OUTSIDE for part of the day, whatever the weather.
You do NOT need walking boots for this training day.
WHAT TO BRING
- A PACKED LUNCH - there will be NO CANTEEN and no opportunity to leave the school campus until the end of the training day
- water bottle, filled
- pen/pencil
- small notebook if you have one, we will have paper but you will want to keep your notes carefully (you will be sent a copy of the training notes)
- mug or cup as we MAY have the chance to heat up a warm drink on the stoves if there is time
PLAN FOR THE DAY
We will be working in groups on a carousel of training activities including
- use of tents and camp stoves (we will supply these)
- expedition first aid,
- route planning
- navigation and use of maps and compass (I will bring these)
- expedition equipment
- how to pack your rucksack (you do NOT need to bring one to this training day)
- walking boots and care of your feet on expedition (you do NOT need boots yet for this training day)
- expedition food suggestions and tips (you will shop, bring and cook all your own food on the expeditions in April and May)
