The Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme is a fantastic opportunity for all participants involved at any level. It is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, help within the community and, importantly, a great way to boost your CV.
The DofE is all about going the extra mile – gaining new skills, pushing yourself physically, helping others and exploring new territories. At the same time, you’ll gather friendships, experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
There are 4 sections to the Award. You chose your own activities for Volunteering, Physical and Skill. Then we help to organise and supervise the Expedition section. If you are going for Gold, you also take part in a Residential activity of your choice!
At LPGS we wish to encourage students to take part in these adventures and opportunities. However, we also need you to understand that you are making a big commitment, to all four sections. After all, this is why the Award is so highly regarded as it takes all participants to new levels of determination and perseverance.
The DofE programme is flexible and recognises that plans are sometimes changed or interrupted. So you have until you are 25 to complete your Awards as a long-stop. However at LPGS we will expect that you log in and upload evidence regularly, and aim to complete your Award in time for the next Awards ceremony (approximately 9 months to 1 year from your enrolment for Bronze and Silver levels, 18 months for Gold.)
So we invite you to submit an application once you have done your research and thought about the activities you would like to commit to for your 3 or 6 month skill, physical and volunteering sections.
Please see the enrolment pages of DofE on Firefly for more details of this application and enrolment process.
We are here to guide and support you all the way through, but this is YOUR programme, you need to take responsibility for completing it. So, on your application do show us how you are going to organise, time-manage yourself! We will take care of the Expedition section for you.
We run some expeditions with our own qualified and experienced staff. For our larger expeditions we may use Approved Activity Providers to maximise the numbers of students able to take the Award.
