Self isolating teachers

Ensure that you are logged into MS teams all day. You will need teams so that with the help of the cover teacher you can see the class.

At the start of the day the isolating teacher will be emailed a list of who is covering their lesson.  Please remember to ensure that you are online during lesson times.

Ensure that you are logged into MS Teams all day.  In time for the lesson, call the cover teacher on MS Teams and share your screen so that you can see the class.

The cover teacher will ensure that the webcam is working and that you can see all the students.

Before the lesson:

  • Prepare your lesson including having back up material in case of tech issues with remote teaching. Email your ppt to the cover teacher. Ensure you have your own version of the ppt- you will be seeing the students whilst the cover person shows it.
  • Cover person:
    • Make sure that you have a webcam (from Jane White) and a copy of the lesson or resources needed (emailed from the isolating teacher)
    • To set up the webcam: plug it into any spare USB point (like a memory stick) - Jane White will have webcams that are exclusive for cover teachers
    • Log on to Teams and wait for the call !

During lessons

  • Take the register
  • Check that all students are in the right position
  • Isolating Teacher will call cover teacher
  • Ensure that the sound is working so the class can hear the teacher
  • Check that the webcam is in a place that the teacher can see the class
  • Move the presentation forward as instructed by the teacher
  • Support with any behaviour issues

Cover person shows the PowerPoint and advances it on teacher request. This means that although the students can’t see the teacher, the teacher can still see them and ensure they are focused. Students are encouraged by the teacher to participate, by putting their hands up and asking and answering questions as they would in normal lessons, just that they will have to speak a little louder to be heard as they are usually far away from the microphone.

Cover person moves the PowerPoint along, "gives out" worksheets (if they have been left safely in the room in advance) and any other physical tasks that requires doing in the classroom.
