As always, things in school can change year on year, however these are our current systems and routines. If there are any changes to these, you will be informed in writing and through the parent/carer communication.
If you have a question that isn't published please email: yearseven@lpgs.bromley.sch.uk with the Message Subject : Q&A. We will respond in due course.

With normal school days students should not arrive at school before 7:45am. We cannot guarantee supervision of students before this time and do not recommend students come to school before this time. If students do arrive in school before 8:00 when the student gates open, they can come through the main reception.
Unless taking part in an after-school activity such as a sports match or concert students should be off site by 4:30pm. The library and other computer rooms are open for students to work after school, but we do not wish students to do this unsupervised.
The student gate is opposite the Primary School and opens from 8:00am-08:29am. Students arriving before or after this time need to go through Main Reception.
The gates then open at the end of the day at 3:10pm until 3:30pm. Again if students wish to exit the school after this time, it will be through Main Reception.
Students are allowed to move around school as they wish apart from going into the changing rooms and other key areas unsupervised.
Students are not allowed in classrooms or their form rooms at break or lunch.
During lunch Year 7 students are allowed in the Sports Hall along with Year 8.
There are many other areas students are allowed, such as the courtyard, dalo and main hall.
On your first day at LPGS you will be given a Map. This will help you with your way around. Everyone is extremely nice and teachers won't tell you off or give you Detentions if you get lost in the first few weeks. You will slowly begin to find your way around and will spend most of your lessons as a form group, so there will always be someone to help you get from A to B.
There are key areas in school you will be shown that will be the most helpful, Reception, Student Support and the Head of Year 7 Office. You can go to any of these areas if you get lost or need some help.
After school enrichment activities are an integral part of the Langley Park School for Girls’ curriculum and are therefore strongly encouraged for all students.
A range of enrichment activities takes place each term, some of these at lunchtime and others after school. The programme of activities is published every term and information about these and other events is given in the Newsletters and published on the school website.
Over the year, there will be a wide range of activities on offer and all Year 7 students will be expected to participate in at least one after school activity each week.
Examples of Enrichment Activities this year have been; choir, badminton club, Photography, Trampolining, Gardening and Science Club.
All things Detentions
It is important to know that most Year 7s don't get detentions. The key thing for Year 7 students to get a SIMS log (point on the system) is for organisation and homework. It is important you follow advice and pack your bag the night before and use your planner to do homework when it is set.
There are a number of detentions students will become aware of:
Late Detention: Same day at 1.55 - 2.05pm.
C1 - Minor Infringement - Next day at 3:30pm
C2 - Serious Infringement - 4.00pm next day Detention
C3 - Persistent Defiance - 4:30pm Senior Detention (On a Friday).
Please note that it is school policy, as document on the website and in the parent/carer handbooks, that students can be kept until 3:30pm without prior knowledge. Detentions later than 3:30pm will be given at least 24 hours notice.
Examples of behaviour that might warrant a C1 and 3:30 detention;
- Not listening
- Lack of equipment / HWK
- Lateness
- Distracting others
- Insufficient effort
- Breaking uniform + mobile phone rules
- Minor inappropriate behaviour, compliant once challenged
Examples of behaviour that might warrant a C2 and 4:00 detention;
- Inappropriate language
- Inappropriate behaviour
- Refusal to follow request
- Stopping others working
- Using mobile phone
In a detention the teacher will write it in your planner and ask you to come back and see them after school or at lunch/break. It is important you do so and speak with the teacher regarding why you have recieved the detention. Most teachers will spend the time talking to you about the detention and how you can ensure you don't get another one. You might read in silence or help the teacher with a task.
The important thing to remember is that at LPGS the philosophy is to encourage a high level of motivation and self-discipline in all students. It is important that all students realise the consequences of different behaviour, both in terms of the effect on the individual and on the group.
We are hoping to be able to inform students and parents/carers of the languages for Year 7 (2024) shortly.
Further information on this will follow in due course.
Unfortunately students do not get a choice about being with a student from their primary school, or perhaps someone else they already know. Students are all mixed together in their forms groups and the idea is that everyone makes new friends.
You will still be able to see your old primary school friends in social times and may be in certain lessons when we merge the form groups.
It can be daunting to make friends but everyone will make friends and find girls they have things in common with.
Questions asked by Year 6 students
Lunchtime is 45 minutes, you can either bring a packed lunch from home or purchase a school lunch from the canteen using our cashless system (sQuid). Food and
drink may be eaten in the dining area, Gym, Dalo or outside in the school grounds.
Year 7 students are also
allowed to eat in the Sports Hall (informed by Head of Year). Hot food bought from the canteen may only be eaten in the Dalo building or Hall.
Students in Year 7 to 10 are not allowed to leave the premises at lunchtime.
We operate on a cashless system for which all students use a toggle. There are no overdraft
facilities with this system, so students must learn to be responsible.
All money should be credited onto sQuid
accounts online using a credit or debit card. All payments to the school, including printing, trips and other
purchases, should be made using sQuid. Cashless catering reduces the problems of students carrying cash within the school environment and encourages
healthy eating.
Parents/carers will receive sQuid logins along with their daughters toggle prior to the summer holidays to purchase equipment/place money on the system for lunch.
After school enrichment activities are an integral part of the Langley Park School for Girls’ curriculum and are
therefore strongly encouraged for all students.
A range of enrichment activities takes place, some of these at lunchtime and others after school. Over the year, there will be a wide range of activities on offer and all Year 7 students will be expected to
participate in at least one after school activity each week.
We encourage all Year 7 students to participate in at least one after school club, this is a way to make new friends and get to know what the school has to offer.
The enrichment activities change each term and our shared with parents/carers through the school website and firefly.
Students should have their chosen book
with them every day. Student read silently at the start of tutor time whilst their tutor takes the register.
Students can also read in their form rooms and outside at their own leisure.
In Year 7 students will receive up to approximately an average of an hour and a half homework per day. You will receive a planner on your first day that can be used to write everything down. Homework is also shared on Firefly so students and their parents/carers can see what is being set.
Students are allowed to bring their mobile phones into school on the understanding that if they are lost or
broken the school takes no responsibility for this.
Between 8.30am and 3.10pm they are not to be seen or
heard unless the teacher explicitly allows them to be used for legitimate learning tasks. Any unauthorised
mobile phone use results in the phone being confiscated. A parent/carer has to come to collect the phone.
We are looking to ensure the new Year 7 cohort get the opportunity for tours and other activities in school that allow you the chance to get to know the building before you start your lesson.
However when you first start you will be given a map and you will also be given a chance to have a tour around school.
If you do get lost just find a member of staff or another student and they will be happy to help you.
