Maths

Welcome to Maths

Mathematics and Further Mathematics are versatile qualifications, well-respected by employers and are “facilitating” subjects for entry to higher education in a range of different subject areas and careers. The reason why mathematics is so highly valued is that mathematics students become better at thinking logically and analytically (have a read of this article from a study Studying maths beyond GCSEs helps brain development, say scientists | Mathematics | The Guardian if you don't believe me!). Through solving problems you develop resilience and are able to think creatively and strategically.

The mathematical skills you learn in A level Mathematics are of great benefit in other A level subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, computing, geography, psychology, economics and business studies.

A level Mathematics is an interesting and rewarding course which extends the methods you learned at GCSE but many students say that they find the initial transition from GCSE to A Level challenging.

The Tasks section focuses on important aspects of your studies of mathematics from your GCSE that will help to make your transition to A Level Mathematics as smooth as possible, as well as providing some interesting problem solving along the way.

The Key Skills section provides further practice and consolidation of the areas of Mathematics that will be essential throughout the course from the very beginning. You should use these during the summer holidays to ensure that you retain these fundamental skills ready for September.
